23-And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little
children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald
head.

  • (TR) As he was going up by the way, that calls our attention to the time of the attack. Elisha was
going to Bethel to Bless not to curse. In spite of how things may appear we always need to be on
    guard.

1 Cor. 10:12-13  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no
temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful. Who will not suffer you to be
tempted above that ye are able: but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be
able to bear it.

Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk
circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.

Circumspectly - not as acting without first weighing the risk or consequences watchfully, cautiously, with
awareness.

The people were living in idolatry.
Hosea - Ministered after Elisha, and he called this city "Bethaven".

Bethhaven

Beth-means, house;       el - means, God;       Aven - means trouble, sorrow, Idolatry, Emptiness

  • There came forth little children, Satan hates the Word of God and the People of God, He will use
whoever &  whatever to stop the work of God.
  • Out of the City - very disrespectfully  (leaders, deal with disrespect) unfortunately it is sad but the
attack usually comes from within Family, church, those who are the closest to you. Satan is out to
    stop the work of God

  • The attack of young men was two-fold
  • 1st Go up - Referring to Elijah they were mocking
  • 2nd - Bald head - Disgrace Consequences of leprosy, malicious intention. Poisoned arrows to
    the Heart

spoken twice - Go up, thou bald head, go up, thou bald head.

24-And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came
forth two
she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

  • (TR)And he turned back, and looked on them. Luke 9:5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye
go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
  • Elisha was able to minister to the needs of certain ones there. But the city as a whole never really
turned to the Lord and His Word.

Matthew 23:37 O
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are
sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her
chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

  • And he curse them in the name of the Lord.

Curse - It does not mean to swear with vile words

Curse - Meaning coming down from a Blessing to a curse.
1 Peter 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again when he suffered; he threatened not, but
committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
  • In the name of the Lord - Elisha  putting it in Gods Hands simply turned it over to God to their own
devise their own chooses. Elisha took up his armor (The Word of God) The Word of God is ALIVE
& ACTIVE  The Word of God is  a channel that the Spirit of God uses to accomplish a task.
Psalm 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his Angels that excel in strength, that do his commandments,
hearkening unto the voice of his word.

  • THE KEY - Is to realize How POWERFUL the Word of God is Moses spoke the Word Elijah
spoke the Word Elisha spoke the Word YOU and I must speak the WORD OF GOD
  • You can expect Opposition when using the Word, Satan attacks both the Word of God & the
People of God and he also attacks those who hear the Word of God. The purpose for the attack, Is
to get you and I off the WORD OF GOD.
  • And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them. (42
    children)
  • Notice Elisha did not call out the two she bears "GOD DID"
without the Lord there is no protection form Evil, The moment God is removed, His wall of
protection comes down. (
Job, Satan attacked him and wrecked havoc on him).Without God's
Blessing, Salvation, Protection We all stand cursed.  Regardless of Elijah's-physical
Appearance, or His short comings, or personality, Elisha was a Man of God

DEUTERONOMY 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you
life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.

25-And he went from thence to
Mount Carmel  and from thence he returned to Samaria.

  • (TR) And he went from thence - Satan was well enriched there. This is a fact we sometimes have to
face and when this is the cause, all that you and I can do,"WE MUST SIMPLY MOVE ON"
  • Elisha Did Not - Run, Did not argue, Did not compromise, Act out of self-defense, did not complain
to the LORD not did he trow in the towel. He simply Ignored their words.

  • Mount Carmel - Is a barrier to traffic along the coastal plain, Symbol of Beauty & Fertility. To be
given the "Splendor of Carmel was to be blessed

ISAIAH 35:2  It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall
be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD and the
excellency of our God.

Mount Carmel - walking in their sandals
Mount Carmel - Be at PEACE The vineyards of God, archaeologists have discovered ancient wine and
oil presses.
Mount Carmel - Was seen as a place offering escape, A place of Refuge, criminals used this place to
hide away.
  • And from thence he returned to Samaria.
Samaria - "To Watch" - "Look Out". "Watch Mountain" - "Watch Tower", A Solitary Mountain, In the
Heart of Israel. EXODUS 14:13-14 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, Stand still, and
see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have
seen to day, ye shall see them again no more forever.
The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
